Legal Word Processor
Description
A Californian, mid-sized law firm is seeking a skilled Legal Word Processor to join their Los Angeles office. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, formatting, and revising legal documents and correspondence in accordance with the firm's guidelines and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Create, format, and revise legal documents, such as pleadings, briefs, contracts, and agreements, using legal word processing software
- Edit and proofread documents for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to formatting guidelines
- Ensure that all documents are properly formatted, paginated, and contain necessary exhibits, signatures, and notarizations
- Convert documents between different file formats, such as Word, PDF, and electronic court filing formats
- Maintain document management systems and file organization to ensure timely access to documents
- Communicate with attorneys and support staff to clarify instructions, request missing information, and provide status updates
- Adhere to deadlines and ensure timely delivery of completed documents
- Follow firm's policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and security of documents and data
- Stay current on changes in legal terminology, court rules, and procedures, and incorporate changes into document preparation processes
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in legal word processing or related field
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, court rules, and procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal word processing software, such as ProLaw or PerfectLaw
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of electronic court filing systems is a plus
